International Day for People of African Descent

The 2025 Africa Dialogue Series (ADS) concluded on May 30 with a powerful High-Level Policy Dialogue on the theme: "Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations." Hosted by the ⁨UN (OSAA), the President of the UN General Assembly, the ⁨AU Commission⁩ , AU ECOSOCC, and partners, this event brought together global leaders to discuss concrete steps toward reparatory justice. Key highlights from the opening session: -H.E. Philemon Yang, President of the 79th UNGA, emphasized the need to confront historical truth and go beyond financial reparations. -@unitednations Secretary-General António Guterres called for global reforms and inclusion of African voices. -AU Commission Chair H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf urged action on climate justice, trade, cultural restitution, and diaspora ties. -Mr. William Carew, ECOSOCC Head of Secretariat, stated that reparatory justice must be a unified African agenda rooted in legal, economic, and cultural change.
