Consultations on Systemic racism against Africans and people of African descent in the criminal justice system - 4th session International Independent Expert Mechanism to Advance Racial Justice and Equality in Law Enforcement.

The International Independent Expert Mechanism to Advance Racial Justice and Equality in Law Enforcement will hold its 4th session from 5 to 9 May 2025 in Geneva.

During its session, the Expert Mechanism will hold public in-person consultations on 7 and 8 May in relation to systemic racism against Africans and people of African descent in the criminal justice system. The key observations and recommendations emanating from the consultations will inform the Expert Mechanism's 4th annual report to be presented to the 60th session of the Human Rights Council (8 September - 3 October 2025).

All stakeholders are welcome to participate in the consultations. Speakers will include subject-matter experts and directly affected individuals. Other participants will include Member States, UN Experts, representatives of OHCHR, UN agencies and other intergovernmental organizations, academics, CSOs, directly affected communities and individuals, among others.

Discussions will be public, and participation will be in person only. Interpretation will be provided in the six UN languages. Individuals who are unable to participate in person may submit their contributions in writing in response to the call for inputs and follow the consultations via UN Web TV.
